National Coordinator - Civil Society Coalition on Oil and Gas (CSCO)

Atrained legal practitioner and human rights advocate for transparency and goodgovernance of Uganda’s Natural Resources. James holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree(LLB) from Makerere University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (BarCourse) from the Law Development Centre and is currently a Master of Laws (LLM)Candidate at Makerere University Scholl of Laws.

 Asa committed human rights activist, James has for overfive years worked with Civil society organizations, Coalitions and Networks toadvance human rights and good governance of land and other natural resources atboth national and regional level. He has also played anactive role in legal and policy reform advocacy on land, Oil, Gas andmining in Uganda. He is currently pursuing a Public Interest Litigation caseagainst the Attorney General on the inhuman nature of Land Evictions in Uganda.He has done and been part of various research studies and published a number ofarticles, on Land, Oil, gas and mining in Uganda.

Previous, James worked Global RightsAlert where he managed a Program on EnhancingCitizenry Participation in Natural Resource Governance, and also ChairedCSCO’s  Legal, Policy and GovernanceThematic Group. He has also worked with the Human Rights and Peace Centre(HURIPEC), The Public Interest Law Clinic (PILAC) and Development LawAssociates (DLA). James is a pioneer member of the Network of Public InterestLawyers (NETPIL) an umbrella body for Ugandan lawyers, NGOs and Law Firms thatengage in Human Rights and Public Interest advocacy, where he chairs the Landand Natural Resource Working Group.
